Nurtec vs Qulipta
Nurtec and Qulipta are both gepants and answer different questions. Qulipta is a daily preventive tablet and nothing else. Nurtec is an as-needed attack tablet that also holds a preventive indication at every-other-day dosing. The overlap - prevention - is where the two labels are worth reading closely. This page does that.

One document covers two jobs, the other covers one
The Nurtec label covers acute treatment of migraine and preventive treatment of episodic migraine. The Qulipta label covers preventive treatment of migraine only - but in both flavours, with dosing for episodic migraine at 10, 30 or 60 mg once daily and for chronic migraine at 60 mg once daily.
Read side by side: for chronic migraine prevention only Qulipta's label speaks; for stopping an attack only Nurtec's does; for episodic migraine prevention both do, on different schedules.
Every other day against every day
Nurtec's preventive schedule is 75 mg every other day. Qulipta's is daily, with the dose picked from three strengths. The two handle drug interactions differently as well: Qulipta's label lowers the dose to 10 mg with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors, while Nurtec's advises avoiding concomitant use with them altogether.
What this page does not tell you
It does not say whether prevention or acute treatment is the right strategy for anyone, or which gepant to pick. Those decisions belong to a clinician; the labels describe what was approved, and this page stops where they stop.
Common questions
- Can Qulipta stop an attack the way Nurtec can?
- Acute treatment is not among Qulipta's indications: its label covers preventive treatment of migraine. Nurtec's label covers both acute treatment and prevention of episodic migraine.
- Which one covers chronic migraine?
- Qulipta: its label sets 60 mg once daily for chronic migraine. Nurtec's preventive indication is for episodic migraine.
- Are both from the same class?
- Yes, both labels describe CGRP receptor antagonists - gepants. Neither carries a boxed warning, and neither has the cardiovascular contraindications of the triptans.
